Lake Area Radio Klub had another great
Field Day in 2010. Joe, KKØSD served as Field Day chairman
again this year. As usual, we operated 3A (three stations on alternative power) from Stokes-Thomas City Park in Watertown. We utilized most of our club-owned equipment, along with several members' equipment. Operating trailers were supplied by Dave (KDØLJG), Chuck (KBØVXD), and Laurel (KB8HMR). The Salvation Army unit was also used again, after having been gone for several years. Unlike previous Field Days, we decided to split up the two HF voice stations this year. This provided less "aural QRM" and more space for operators and visitors. Another new edition to Field Day this year was the use of computerized CW encode and decode. Although it wasn't utilized very much, it was still nice to have available. The CW station was occupied primarily by Dave (NØDL), and we all know that he doesn't need a computer to decode CW (hi hi). We used networked computers so that all contacts were logged to one central server and statistics could be viewed at any station. We also connected the two shelters using an 802.11G wireless bridge provided by Kevin (KBØLCR). Internet service was provided by Data Truck. Appearances were made on both KXLG (99.1 FM) and KWAT (950 AM) prior to Field Day, so our activites were well advertised. We had plenty of visitors stop by the site to see what we were all about. |
